In early February i bunkered down in the hills of Washington Heights, CA with fellow multi instrumental artist Tim Phillips - Tenstairs. For four hours straight we improvised a slow spinning dervish of sound from cello, trumpet, analog synthesizers, voice, and non instruments. Here is a tiny fraction of the content created that hazy day. Towards the end of this track you can hear the scurrying of a family of raccoons that came to watch from the living room window - captured with prescient microphone placement by Tenstairs. It was a magical moment: something that could only have occurred as a product of pure love of sound and sound’s environment. Though this may not sound like anything on “m_o_d_e_s” I think that you will find this as delightfully calming and intriguing as the “pop” material on that album.

This release is a bit of a change of pace for us, but we’re really excited to be throwing our support behind it and we hope you will as well. The tapes will go out soon, so until then you can stream the whole thing on our Bandcamp page.
